For me, there is one powerfully addictive connection to art, and that is expressing my core being. I think we are all made up of layers of moods, and thoughts that shield our inner core. Creating art feels like I let the layers fall away, until I am left with a pilot light at my center.

 

Since I was young I have associated this light with the nude, which has no layers clothes which are representative of status, profession, or time period.  I have also felt that the nude is one of the greatest ways to express the uniqueness of the individual.  I think there is a strong connection between the ancient Greek nude sculpture and the famous Greek dictum to Know Thyself.

I don't know if you hold onto your unique identity with something bordering on stubbornness, but I do know if it is precious to you, you are the person I try to reach in my art.
