Counterpose is a theme about taking contrast and integrating them into a balanced whole: light and shadow, orange and blue, yellow and purple, thrust and counter-thrust, contortion and balance, and pain and exaltation.  Loraine was the perfect model for this; both a professional dancer and art model, she told me that she loved the freedom of movement in dance and the constriction and discipline of posing rigidly still for hours on end. The theme also matched my feeling that working with  light and color is like containing fire--to freeze the sizzling light forever. The theme also matched my art  life of trying to balance the unbridled passion of being an artist with learning the practical things that help an artist survive. The act of integration can be extremely tiring, even painful when you are young or not used to it but with it comes a truly wonderful sense of being on the right path.

On other fronts I enjoyed the radically foreshortened body and having the her head upside-down. Another interesting note is that I love the music of Bach, so it's a natural for me to play with counter-forms, colors, and moods.
