Michael Newberry painting in
his studio, August 25, 2009.
Here is a glimpse of me applying a color overlay on Moving Forward.
Though I won't let anyone touch my canvases, I am resting my little finger
carefully on the dry part of the canvas. This steadies my hand for applying
careful details. On my major, big works I will also tape my studies directly on
the canvas for easy reference. I am using a small brush, mixing a fresh new
color for every mark I make. The pastel studies are great color guides enabling
me to push the boundary of the color in the painting. I think when this picture
was shot I was listening to Brahms, Symphony No. 3 on my ipod.
