For Venus, and Icarus Landing, there are a few reasons for my pride in these two works. Art history is the standard for importance, quality, and innovation.  Icarus and Venus have a huge image history with many great artists Botticelli, Titian, Matisse, Canova, Bruegel, Manet, Picasso putting their hand to them. To do the Icarus and Venus themes is a challenge. It’s going up against the greats. And adding something fresh and different is a must. It takes balls.

The challenge of doing a Venus was simply two things:  what does the most beautiful desirable woman in the universe look like? And what new thing can I “say” about her? The color theory of the light in Venus is outrageous. The setting is taking place with the first warm glowing rays of dawn, the magic hour.  The colors of scarlet for the light, and green/blue for shadows are insanely difficult – the transitions from forest and olives greens to brilliant peach and scarlet are near impossible. Yet I pulled it off – she simply looks like a beautiful contemporary woman bathed in the sunrise glow against a Greek island setting.

The price of Venus is not posted, she will each be in the six figure range and I want to negotiate with her future collector in a constructive way that is good for them, me, and the future health of the painting.
