One of the first things I did in New York at the end of 2005 was to visit the Himalayan Museum. The interior of the museum is stunning, with its richly-colored walls of rust. While working on this pastel it was urgent that I put in lots of red. In hindsight it was the influence of the museum. I remember reading about Picasso discussing that if he spent a day walking in a forest that the greens of the landscape became imbedded in his work. Technically, this piece is one of the first completed works in which I am using my new theory of Triangulating Light and Dark.
