Awakening
, 1987, 30/30 limited edition lithograph, 10x16" $2000

Awakening was created around the time I finished Denouement. What I like about this work is that they idea is fully developed, though monochromatic. It gives you a very good idea of how I worked my principal paintings at this time in their monochromatic stage. The model was a dear friend who was embarking on a new career in the arts; she as scared, yet terribly excited. I did the studies for this during a summer month in Italy. The idea here is that she wakes up early and looks out the window overlooking a beautiful landscape and contemplates her new horizons.

Lithography is a fascinating medium. The artist draws or paints with a special ink on a stone, the stone goes through an acid etching, then it is rolled ink and prints on paper. Awakening is actually created by the printing of two separate stones.

Ornate textured black frame, 1" wide and 2" deep, acid-free 100% cotton rag mat, uv non-glare glass.
