Woman's Face,
1978, oil on linen, 16 x 24 inches
Sold
This is an early work, I was 22 and living
in the horribly grungy East Village of Manhattan. This painting was based on a
charcoal gesture drawing from a live model posing in a figure drawing group in
SoHo. The pose had something kick-ass confidence, and something animal-like.
Picasso was an early influence of mine, and I think that shows up in the
abstracted forms of her face and shoulders.
