Jette,
1978, oil on linen, 60 x 40 inches

This is a portrait of Jette van der Meij, at the
time she was studying music in Amsterdam and has since become a famous Dutch
television actress. I was studying figure drawing at the Free Academy in The
Hague. Jette is easily excited, contemplative, and is warming affectionate. To
express all of this, I was grappling with strong warm colors, life size figure,
bold strokes, and the mood of contemplation.
