Innocence
, 2008, charcoal on Rives BFK, image 19 x 26 inches. $800

I have lots of different characters in my head, voices I call them. One of them is innocent like a child - I like old-fashioned cartoons and early animated Disney features, like Snow White. I can't watch horror films, they freak me out, and I would have nightmares. The model had the right kind of character for me to express this feeling of innocence. There is a postmodern artist, Paul McCarthy, who drives the point that when you see the real life animated characters at Disneyland, there is a real human being inside the get up, who is not as innocent as the character they project. That has never been an issue for me, all I see is the character, and I enjoy seeing how children and their parents are enthralled by the experience. It is magical.

This drawing is perhaps the most careful one in the Cast the Light series. The cast shadow and most of the man's body is  transparent. The guy is modest, reflective, and almost shy.
