Twin Towers, 2008, charcoal on Rives BFK, 19 x 26 inches (48.3 x 66 cm) Sold

It can take up to three hours to find the right kind of pose that fits the model, and my mood. I don't know in advance what the images will be. Models don't usually look right in a pre-determined pose. We tried several poses and I liked something of the sad mood. When I set up the light for this pose I immediate saw the visual metaphors of the destruction of the twin towers: the explosion of light; the twin towers' profile on the bottom part of the wall; and the upper section of dark arms and their shadows resembling the chaos of fames and destruction. Along with mourning mood of the pose, everything came together to express the them of the demise of the World Trade Center.
