When I am working with a model and coming up with a pose to draw I go through a long process of vetoes. I don't want to just draw the figure, like you would find posing in a life drawing class. If there is little emotional content I rejected it no matter how attractive the pose might be. And I will look for the meaning of the image--including what meanings the light and shadows might have. The model for Twin Towers was very slender and about six feet, with very long legs. His legs' cast two shadows that reminded me of straight, narrow buildings. From there I saw how the shadows morphed into a wild, organic shape above. The explosion of the hot light and the model's bent head made this a perfect mourning piece for the Twin Towers. Black-rubbed hardwood frame, 8-ply acid free rag board, uv glass (upon shipping uv plexi glass will be substituted.) |
