This is the only etching I have made and it's the only print. I made it somewhere in my early twenties, when I lived in Holland. There is my painting, Woman in Blue, which has the same furniture as in this work. There is something of the influence of Vermeer here. I remember when I lived here that on several afternoons I would take the tram to the Mauritz House and visit the Girl with the Pearl Earring. I think of all art works as spiritual self-portraits and its interesting that young man  is so still in this work--while I have always been very active. But I have noticed that when I have thought about very serious things, like my future in art as a young man, I get terrible still inside as if my soul stops to listen.
