Brothers, 2006, oil on panel, 12 x 16" $1,200 sold

Brothers is the first painting in a 2006 series of cityscapes of Manhattan. I am painting them direct from life. This was painted in Union Square, quite a lively plays with tons of people around. My first day I blocked in the perspective and worked on it for a few hours. When I was done for that day I turned to look behind me and there were about 25 people on benches facing in my direction--it was startling. I have enjoyed that I can keep my focus with hundreds of people nearby. All this architecture, perspective is a fun challenge to paint/draw. The Triangulation of Points is a great tool to use in organizing it. I love the closeness of the two main buildings and the dramatic perspective drop off. The detailing is also wicked but I enjoy adding the layers of highlights as I add the details.
