There is a back story to this painting, this is the bell from this church. I love bronze: its colors and texture is very sensual. And the idea that this bell can ring through the quiet of the pine grove touches a cord on me. The beauty of this bell, the location in the Rhodian pine grove, the sea behind me, the hospitality of the church's guardian - I take all those feelings and with sincerity and being truthful, paint to honor those feelings. There is something raw, rough, simple about the subject and I feel I got that exact feeling in paint. |
