Medusa's Head, 2005, oil on
panel, 9x12" $600
|
This was painted plein air on a foggy day on a beach in Florida. It's the root end of washed up mangrove tree, about 14' high. I found the whole image incredibly eerie, with something demonic about it. It reminded me of the dead ends of postmodern aesthetics. Once you buy into one of the gnarled roots you are doomed nihilism! Medusa's Head, I think, is an appropriate title.
It is floated in 4' wide wood frame, hand-painted in blood red oil
paint. |
