Michael Newberry giving a plien air demo, overlooking Mineral de Pozos, Mexico, August, 2008.

I gave a plein air painting workshop in central Mexico in the summer of '08. Here I am painting a demo, overlooking the valley of Mineral de Pozos. The town is a small art community. I try to follow my golden rule for plein air, keep it under an hour! Actually I don't "try" to keep it short, I am adamant about it - anyone who has painted with me will confirm that.  What goes hand and hand with painting outdoors quickly is painting on a small canvas. Smaller the canvas, the quicker you can capture the beauty in front of you. Later in my studio when the painting is dry I will do some minor editing.

Our group had an awesome lunch in town after the morning of painting.
