The Pillar, 2008, oil on canvas panel, 9x12"

If you look closely you might discern the clouds, mountains, and the corridor pillar reflected in the window. To anyone but an artist, this painting might appear simple, but painting in all the information before the sun irrevocable changes the setting  is a great challenge--and a rewarding one too. I enjoyed composing the contrast of the weight of the pillar with the strength of the cast shadow to the right. And I like the sensual warm colors of the lighted areas in contrast to coolness of the pillar.
