Mindless, 2005, oil on panel, 9x12" $550 sold

On a muggy winter's day on a beach in Florida, I painted three paintings back to back. It was strange for me to paint such eerie scenes yet, that is one of the reasons I enjoy once  painting quick oil sketches--they capture a moment in experience. Throughout art school and for many years afterward I had a forlorn feeling about Postmodern methods--they were so un-artistic. For someone who loves to paint like me the feeling was like removing my spirit from art and engaging in mindless cleverness.  This dead mangrove reminds me of the same feeling. Its very odd to painting something one does not want in there life and yet, once in awhile, I enjoy expressing my artistic loneliness in those early years.
