I painted a triptych of paintings in the same spot over the course of several hours. It was on a beach near Cape Canaveral. In Florida, the sky can change dramatically and quickly. A darkened sky surfaced from nowhere, with brilliant lights cutting through the darkness. I had just painted this same scene, which had a dreamy, hazy, and very light quality to it. I was shocked at how different the scene now looked. Luckily, the weather stayed that way for a little over an hour. The most outstanding features of the scene, and the ones that I focused on, were the dark intense blue of the sky; the brilliant light on the cloud, and the sparkling green light on the water. |
