Ginger Jar 23/25, 1988, oil on linen, 48x60"  Giclee 22x28" $3,500

While in the throes of painting Denouement in my downtown Los Angeles loft I got the opportunity to create my first lithograph.  The great fine art printer, Toby Michele of Angeles Press had his studio located in the same building. An interesting fact about genuine lithography is the each piece of an edition is an original, kind of an oxymoron. The process begins with drawing or painting with a special black ink onto a block of limestone. For ever layer of color is a new stone. Ginger Jar has three separate colors: black, brown, and blue. There never was a drawing I copied rather as we printed test runs I got to see the image emerge.

The Ginger Jar edition is a limited edition of 25. Note: the edition sold out several years ago and this particular piece has come back on the market.

There are so many things I love about art making. One of them is that I enjoy complexity and making it look simple. I love how the ginger jar as images of warriors in all kinds of fighting poses, none of which are repeated.

Cherry wood frame, 1 3/4" deep, rounded butterfly corners, 8 ply acid free cotton rag mat, uv plexi-glass.
