I was 26-years old and living in Holland when I painted Sculpturess. The idea is that we are catching the sculpturess contemplating a self-portrait that she is working on. There is an interesting visual play going on in this work, the sculpted head and the artist's head are in the same position. On a more personal level at the time of painting I was also sculpting that very head, my only sculpture.
