There is a very wild piece of music by Rachmaninoff, The Symphonic Dances, at the climax the whole piece disintegrates into the chaos of crashing, violent sound as if the passion burned so brightly that it burned itself up! Slipper is my Symphonic Dances. I started it in '93 and completed it in '99. The theme of the painting is about bursting joy, at least, it represents how I feel the explosion of joy that I experience every once in a while. The theme of bursting can be seen everywhere, her wild pose, the flying slipper, and the shooting rays of light. |
