Last night I finished Little Goddess.

Little Goddess seems done to me but I was still painting her a minute or two ago.  I think it is wise to live with her a little longer before I commit. :)  But, I am thinking of toning down the orange and red on the ground, if I do that she will become brighter.  I have been working on this piece now since February 2001.  Personally I love the expression of her face and the movement of her arms.

Venus.jpg (51337 bytes)

With Venus I must figure out how to photograph her better, the right side of the canvas is picking up glare from the windows.    She is moving along and I am delighted with every mark of color I am making.    The rocks around her will be reflecting the sunset glow--I am looking for a slightly burnt orange color for them.  For her I would like the colors to be intense pinkish orange like the actual sun...let's see if I will be able to pull that off!

This is landscape pastel and a color study for the rocks in Venus.  Unfortunately, the light at sunset moves way to fast for me to do much more than capture color combinations.

Happily I began to work with the model for Artemis.  Unhappily after she left I scraped off most of what I had painted of her--it had looked great but the color wasn't in harmony with the rest of the colors in the painting.  But once I get the right color I will be off and rolling.

This is a little visual whisper.  The idea for it came from a friend telling me about a beautiful moment with a girl and a concert.

Non-Studio Updates:

Just back from New Zealand!

While there I gave the talk Revolution: Ushering in a New Era in the Arts. Here is a brief description: Newberry will discus his game plan for unseating postmodernism from the art world establishment and replacing it with an age of enlightenment in the arts. He will offer his view that to move forward it is essential to point-out contemporary artworks that are advancing the mediums of painting and sculpture. And, of the necessity to create a synergy of highbrow aesthetics, walking the walk, moral depth, and of a sincere love of creating and appreciating art. He will outline progress made, point towards the next steps, and field questions and suggestions.

Earlier in February I met up with Ivan Massow, then chairman of ICA--Institute of Contemporary Arts, London. He is one of the only persons in the art world to call a spade a spade. In his words he calls most concept art "craftless tat." While there I proposed how  he can best support his arguments aesthetically. It is possible that his stance will mark the historical turning point--the end of the postmodern movement and a beginning of new era of enlightenment in the arts.

A new development for me is the collaboration with Brett Holverstott at www.RomanticRealism.net to facilitate sales of my works. He has done an excellent job of setting up his site and his enthusiasm is contagious.

Cheers.
