Studio Update:

In last month's update I mentioned that I might be a day or two away from finishing this painting. No luck. Since then I have been painting day and night on it. Nonetheless I love working the details and the forms. One very difficult and tricky thing to do is to paint the interior of the glass and yet have the paint caress the surface form of the glass.

Last week I painted a local model for Venus and getting back to having a live model is fantastic. Along with painting her I will progressively be adding more details in the mountains and the rocks in the foreground.

I also started this portrait. I will update here any significant developments on this painting.

I drew this thumbnail sketch of the model for the portrait. It is very small, 10/16ths of an inch, about the size of a real thumbnail. The purpose of drawing a thumbnail is focusing all my attention to essentials; it can be used for compositional purposes but I used this for studying the light. As the painting evolves I will continue to reference the thumbnail so that I don't lose the big picture.

That's it for the moment but I will update this page when I finish the still life and advance the other works.
