Studio Update:

Finally got my computer stuff back and up and running. A lot has gone on in the last two months: around 30 new landscapes of California’s high desert, coastal areas, and of my home town La Jolla. They are 9 x 12”s and 12 x 16”s. They are also available you can contact me through this site or visit www.romanticrealism.net

And I finished the color study for the painting of Kimberly.

I have been away a lot and so has Kimberly we will resume shorty on Lovers and her portrait…below is the drawing study for lovers, I have her face and feet to do.

You might notice the velum paper wrapped around the board above the guy…I fold that over his image when I am working on her, I rest my palm on the paper when I draw sometimes…and model for the guy is not here for recall! So I protect him.

After having done a hundred or so oil landscape sketches I have a clearer image for the background for Venus.

Sometimes I wish I could just “render” the painting and finish things off like I would do if I were an illustrator…but, for me, it simply doesn’t work that way.  I am as much in love with the whole process as I am with the content. The movement of color around and through her has to vibrate…its hard to explain here but a mere ¼” square has to have its unique vibrancy of color—I see the canvas as 3-dimensional universe and every dot of color is placed in its relationship with all others.

A big event for me is the restructuring of www.romanticrealism.net I have re-thought its whole presentation. It is a work in progress, for the next week or so I will be updating it on a daily basis.

Non-Studio Update:

Mid-July at the Objectivist Center’s Summer Seminar I gave the talk, The Quest for Exaltation, Truth, and Sensuality through Art. I enjoyed giving the talk very much. It was the second time I gave the talk the first time I addressed the Philosophy Club of Rockford College. The theme of the talk was based on my manifesto, you can find it here on the navigation bar. I wanted to flesh out the substance behind the manifesto by showing my work and how I cover intellectual, emotional, and sensual basis for an integrated whole.

Well I hope this update was worth the wait.
