EUDAEMONIA AND THE SUBLIME
Aristotle’s concept of Eudaemonia and my interpretation of the Sublime are virtually interchangeable. Out of millions of moments in life, there are just a few when everything comes together perfectly, leading to an experience of bliss. I find these moments are worthy of immortalization in art.

LOVE
Genuine romantic love is one of the greatest and most special experiences. It seems to me that when art, love, and eroticism merge, it creates an evolutionary combination that has been prevalent in art since the dawn of modern humans, around 40,000 years ago.

THE INDIVIDUAL
I find one of the most attractive qualities in any person is the fearlessness and enjoyment of their own identity. That deep self-awareness and confidence in who they are is stunningly beautiful to me. Oddly, I’ve noticed a lack of self-consciousness in those individuals. I love exploring the visual theme to “know thyself” in my paintings of individuals.

PASTELS
Pastel drawing holds a special place in my heart. Most of my pastels are drawn from life, and it gives me a feeling of connecting with the energy of the universe and its light vibrations. The act of pastel drawing becomes an out-of-body, transcendental experience, complemented by suddenly seeing the physical manifestation of that energy as color vibrations on paper.

ALLA PRIMA
Pastels and drawings are extraordinarily fragile—just imagine a cat rubbing against a pastel; that horrifies me. That’s one reason why pastels need to be put behind glass. In contrast, alla prima wet-on-wet oil painting is incredibly permanent and can last for centuries. This gives me a sense that the painting could live forever, challenging me to bring my best to the project.

DRAWINGS
When I draw, it feels like my feet are burrowed deep into the salt of the earth, while my mind and spirit have wings—like a giant eagle, soaring through the universe and pulling the earth along for the journey.
